UGBA K’OJO GWE (A VESSEL UNTO HONOUR)
My union of almost 70yrs with Pa Christopher Ajodo was a remarkable and memorable one. He was a devoted husband to me, and a devoted father to our children.
He was a devoted Christian; it is so glaring that you cannot overlook. His Christian walk with God never wavered till death. There were so many instances he stood his ground based on his ‘faith’ and despite all odds.
A disciplinarian, he was the family’s gatekeeper; he was the first to open the gate and also last to close the gate at night. By 9:00pm, all children must be home else you will be locked out.
A lover of people, he was always attending to people’s NEEDS within and outside the family circle. There are so many things to say about him, but these two remarkable ones stand out. There was this couple whose house collapsed and had no one to help out. Like the Good Samaritan that he was, he took it upon himself and rebuilt their home, and not only that, he fed them till God called them home.
Another is his own half-brother’s son. While the mother was pregnant with him, the father died. Baba took upon himself to see to the well-being of the young boy from infancy. During Christmas and Easter celebrations, he made sure he was well taken care of both in cash and kind, because according to baba, he did not want him to feel the absence of his dad.
Baba, was a father to all, both in Echeno and lbaji community as a whole.
Go well! Rest well baba; a vessel unto honour.
l will miss you greatly.
